From the sugar-cane fields of the state of Pernambuco in northeastern Brazil, meet the figure of Luiz Paixão, iconic master of the brazilian fiddle. Born in a family of musicians, he began learning his instrument at the age of 8, by the same time he started labouring the cane fields.
In the 1990s, he emerged from anonymity thanks to the rise of the Mangue Beat movement. On his way to the « capital », Recife, he brought with him the richness of forró, coco de roda, maracatu and ciranda, participating in many projects in Brazil and abroad.
Since 2001, Mestre Luiz Paixao has a musical relationship with the singer Renata Rosa, who has learned with him the art of playing rabeca. She produced his first album, released in 2005 on label Outro Brasil.
At the peak of his art, this living legend keeps spreading his musical joie de vivre worldwide. He prepares to celebrate his 70th anniversary.
